It’s that time again and Scott Udey gave a great presentation at this month’s meeting about the requirements for entering your photos into the monthly N4C photography contests.
Each photograph should be saved as a JPG and can be no larger than 1024 pixels on any one dimension. So the maximum size is 1024-by-1024. However, any side can be smaller than 1024, ie 1024-by-600 or 515-by-1024. Scott gave a presentation on using both PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements to properly resize your photos. During the presentation we discovered that using the “Save for Web” option will change the color palette of your photo for compatibility with web browsers… and that could change the colors in your photo. So it’s best to use the “Save as” option instead so that the original camera palette is used.
The size of your file can be no more than 500k bytes (512,000 bytes).
And the file should be properly named, for example:
01,TA001,DN,FlowerBloom.jpg
The “01” is a placeholder for Scott so that he can give it a proper file number if/when it’s submitted to the N4C. The “TA001” should be your TCC account number. If you don’t know what yours is, please contact Scott. The “DN” is the category you are entering in (DN = Nature, DJ = Journalism, DP = Pictorial, DC = Creative). And finally include the name of your photo. You can include spaces, but Scott’s experience is that space have caused issues in the past. It’s critically important that each part is separated by commas (,) and not periods.
