Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library’s Marvin Auditorium Room 101A at 6:30 P.M. We will be postponing the program: Portrait Photography until next month while we secure our guest speaker. We will look at our N4C digital winners and entries, but we will also be looking at Prints in addition. If time allows, our President, Scott, would like to talk about the Topeka Camera Club Constitution in preparation for the end of his leadership. He would also like to discuss the type of projector we are going to purchase for the club. Please bring any and all suggestions for this purchase.
Our theme for this months photos is Kids at Play/The Zoo. Please submit no more than 5 images to scott’s e-mail or bring them with you to the meeting on a flash drive. Please make sure to correctly size and lable your photos before submission. If you don’t have a member number, please contact Scott to receive one. If you are unsure of how to resize and lable your photos, please read the Monthly Photo Contest Requirements post on this website.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting where names become faces and faces become friends!

Ok, it’s been a couple of weeks, so it is time to get back to work. After the convention, I decided to rest for the first week. It was a lot of work, but everyone pulled together and got things done. I want to thank everyone who pitched in and helped. I also want to thank the Ramada for doing such a great job with the convention. Everything went very smoothly, and the food was wonderful. A very special thank you to Wolfe’s Camera for donating the wonderful door prizes for the convention.
Last week, I took the time to go through the pictures I took at the convention. I enjoyed the Topeka tour. I saw things that I didn’t even know happened in Topeka! The Topeka High running of the halls was a special highlight. Thank you to the Civil War Re-enactors for coming out to Ward-Meade Park and firing off the cannon. The graciously posed for many, many photos. Thank you again to everyone! Awesome Job!!
Now, our next meeting is 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October, 4th at the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library. Please read the board in the rotunda to find out which room we are in. The program will be on panoramas and unusual croppings. The theme of the meeting is reflections and shadows, so bring your best reflection and shadow photos! Looking forward to seeing everyone there where names become faces, and faces become friends!

Wow! It is hard to believe that summer is almost over, and our first Topeka Camera Club meeting for the 2011–2012 season is upon us. Tuesday, August 2nd, we will meet at the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library at 6:30 P.M. I believe we are meeting in the Marvin Auditiorium 101A, but double check the signs in the lobby. This month’s program is a review of the N4C contest rules including resizing images and labeling them. Everyone needs to submit one digital image for each category (Photojournalism, Creative, Nature, and Pictoral) in preparation for the September contest. With the N4C Convention right around the corner, we will have a lot of things to cover. Hope everyone can make it!

First, I want to convey our deepest apologies for the mixup at May’s meeting. Scott, our President, thought he had the library booked through May. Unfortunately, this was not the case. For those of you who made the trek to the alternate site, thank you for your good naturedness about it. For thouse who didn’t make it, please consider coming to our June meeting. We will have a picnic for this meeting, so details will follow.
On to what happened at the meeting! Greg and Scott talked about the Springbrook meeting they attended at the end of April. Greg created a wonderful photo essay of their trip.
Scott purchased 4 $25 gift certificates from Wolfe’s before he left to take to Springbrook and raffle off. Wolfe’s generously matched our purchase, so we had 8 $25 gift certificates to raffle off. We also talked about the upcoming N4C Convention and went over the schedule. We are planning to do a dry run of the tours in July or August to make sure they will run smoothly in September. August 8th is the deadline for Convention reservations.
We discussed possible photo themes and programs for next year from the photos everyone sent in. A list of themes was generated and will be presented at June’s meeting.
We had two winners in April’s N4C contest! Greg Hoglund took 3rd place in the Digital Photojournalism for his photo, “Mable takes Flight,” and John Sanders received an Honorable Mention in Digital Nature for his photo, “Owl.” Congratulations to Greg and John!
Our last scheduled meeting for the 2010–2011 year is June. For any new people, our year runs from September to May. We have a picnic in June, and take the summer off to travel and take more photos for next year. This year though, we are hosting the Annual N4C Convention September 9–11, so we will possibly have regular meetings throughout the summer. We have a lot to do and September will be here before we know it! If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail Scott or anyone on the e-mail list.

The May 2011 meeting will be held at the Topeka Library on May 3rd at 6:30pm. Please see the signs in the lobby for the exact meeting room being used.
This month we will be deciding on the Themes and Programs for the upcoming year. Please bring your list of ideas for themes and programs to be discussed.
We will also look at the N4C winners from April. If you have any photos you would like to have submitted for the N4C contest, please e-mail correctly formatted photos to Scott Udey by 4:00pm on Tuesday, May 3rd or bring them on a flash drive or CD. If you are not sure how to format your photos, Dave Navarro has a post on here called “The Monthly Photo Contest Requirements” that will be helpful.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
